Could you have bowel cancer if you want to defecate after eating? Oncologist: think too much, there are several other possibilities

My intestines are like a straight pipe, the meal goes in through the mouth, and all of a sudden the bottom is discharged. Mr. Sun, who lives in Zhengzhou, always has a habit of pooping after eating, and he often describes his intestines in this way. Sometimes friends also joked a few words: “rectum” can not store good things.

In the long run, Mr. Sun also accepted the fact that he was “straight”. But recently, someone said that stool after meals may be intestinal cancer, which made him panic. Is it really intestinal cancer if you want to have a bowel movement after eating? Here, experts from Henan Cancer Hospital reminded that it may be normal to have such reaction after meals.

What is the reason for having the urge to defecate after meals?

Everyone’s intestine is sinuous, if we straighten a person’s intestine, the length of intestine is about 6.5~8.5 meters. After we eat food, the food will be digested with the peristaltic movement of the stomach and intestines, which in turn turns into stool that temporarily exists below the colon. When the stool reaches a certain storage capacity, the body triggers a nerve reflex in the rectum, making the person feel like passing stool.

Zhao Yuzhou, deputy director of general surgery, said that there are several possibilities for wanting to poop as soon as you finish eating. First, it may be related to the stronger reflex of the stomach mucosa. The food will cause a stimulation to the gastric mucosa when the rice is eaten in the stomach, and everyone’s gastric mucosa is different and has different sensitivity. Some people’s gastric mucosa is more sensitive, the stimulation is greater, the reflex is stronger, so that more substances will be released and the peristaltic speed of the intestines will be accelerated. Secondly, it may be caused by food intolerance after unintentionally eating food that makes you allergic. Everyone’s constitution is different, and the degree of acceptance of various foods is also different, only some people do not know which foods they are intolerant to, and often eat them, so as soon as they finish eating, they become uncomfortable and have to go to the toilet.

“As soon as you finish eating, you want to defecate, but also consider whether there is a problem with the intestines.” Zhao Yuzhou reminded that the change in the nature of the stool and the intestinal tract of certain diseases is very close, from the stool we can see the intestinal tract, if the intestinal tract problems, such as irritable bowel, intestinal inflammation, etc., the intestine will be more sensitive and easily stimulated, the stimulation of defecation will be significantly increased.

Is having stool after every meal related to bowel cancer?

So, is having a bowel movement after every meal related to bowel cancer? Li Jian, deputy chief physician of general surgery, explained that bowel cancer is generally not considered, and irritable bowel syndrome is more likely. However, bowel cancer can also cause changes in stool, so we should be alert to.

(1) Change of stool habit: When cancer cells are lesioned in the mucosa, patients may not show any symptoms, but their stool habit will change.

(2) Increase in stool frequency: When the tumor grows to a certain extent, it will stimulate the intestine and increase the secretion of mucus, thus leading to an increase in the frequency of stool, in addition, there will be sticky stool that cannot be easily flushed away.

(3) Constipation and blood in stool: When the tumor grows, it will occupy part of the intestinal space, making it difficult for normal stool to pass, resulting in constipation and hard stool. In addition, the stool will become thin and streak-like. Sometimes, due to friction when passing the tumor, the surface of the tumor bleeds, and there will be bright red or dark red mucus in the stool. Once the tumor ruptures, blood in the stool may also occur.

Bowel cancer is good at “disguising” as these common diseases

“Bowel cancer is a disease that is good at disguising itself.” According to Zhao Yuzhou, some common diseases such as recurrent enteritis and hemorrhoids may be its “disguise”.

In recent years, as the incidence of bowel cancer is getting younger, it is recommended that people over 40 years old should undergo bowel cancer screening once a year. Therefore, people who are at high risk for the following conditions should be screened as early as possible.

8 groups of people should have good bowel screening.

People over 40 years old.
Having hemorrhoids or long-term blood in the stool.
Having a history of colorectal tumor in the immediate family.
Having chronic diarrhea that lasts for more than 3 months.
Have frequent constipation, dark bloody stools and mucus stools.
having chronic appendicitis, colorectal polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, cholecystitis or having had their appendix and gallbladder removed
People with chronic mental depression and significant weight loss in the last three months.
Obese people, the risk of colorectal tumors is higher in obese people than in those with normal weight.

Zhao Yuzhou said that these 8 groups of people should pay extra attention to intestinal health, regular medical checkups, and the best screening is to have a colonoscopy as early as possible.
