What’s wrong with snoring in bed?

Sleep snoring may be caused by laryngeal lesions, oral lesions, congenital facial deformities and other causes.

Snoring during sleep is often referred to as snoring. The main cause is the narrowing or blockage of the anatomical part of the upper airway, which may lead to snoring.

It is mainly divided into the following points.

The first point is pharyngeal and laryngeal lesions, nostril stenosis or atresia, nasal polyps in part of the nasal septum, hypertrophic rhinitis and allergic rhinitis. Nasopharyngitis, pharyngeal tumors, pharyngeal paralysis, epiglottic cysts, epiglottic tumors and other diseases can cause snoring.

The second point is oral lesions. The effects of tongue lesions are more serious, such as giant tongue disease and tongue tumor.

The third point is some congenital facial deformities. For example, Down’s syndrome has low nasal bridge, small round jaw, high waist arch and low intelligence. There is Prader-Willi syndrome, which is mainly characterized by dysphagia, obesity, facial deformity, and mental retardation. The fourth point is to consider systemic diseases. Acromegaly can lead to tongue enlargement, hypothyroidism can lead to mucinous edema, chronic lymphocytic leukemia angina pectoris, etc., which can lead to snoring.

Patients who snore during sleep should take care to lie on their sides as much as possible. Sleeping on the side prevents the pharyngeal tissue and tongue from tilting backward, which can block the airway. It also reduces the airway pressure caused by the extra weight on the abdomen, chest and neck. Thus, it helps to reduce snoring symptoms and even treat sleep apnea. Avoid alcohol and drugs before bedtime. Alcohol and some drugs, such as sedatives, sleeping pills and anti-allergy medications, can make breathing shallow and slow, causing muscles to relax more than usual, which can make it easier for pharyngeal tissue to block the airway, exacerbating snoring and sleep apnea.
